WILD WILD WEST

| The TYC "Covered Wagon" float, just in front of Seadragon, was awarded 1st Place in the "Sponsored Decorated" category, while the BYC Float was awarded 2nd Place. The name plate on each side of Seadragon proclaimed the entry to be a "replica" of the actual Locomotive pictured in the Historical May 10th, 1869 Photo of the "Driving of the Golden Spike" to complete the joining of the East and West sections of the first "Transcontinental Railroad". The "Info Sheet" provided to the Judges explained that completion of the "Transcontinental Railroad" was the most important event that opened up the Wild West, since the population on the Eastern half or the US could travel to the Wild West in 4 - 7 days with children and household goods instead of the 4 - 9 months required to make the same trip by covered wagon. The trains enabled people to move West, and beef cattle to be moved East to the population centers. They also created a whole new opportunity for outlaws to branch out and become "Train Robbers". No railroad, no "Wild, Wild West". (Mike Dunn [Thank you, Commodore!]) |
