I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving and is planning to have a
Joyous and Merry Christmas. Hopefully, many of you added a few hours of
preparations and "socializing" for the Christmas season by stopping by
"Your" BYC to help with the Tree Trimming and decorating of the Club. A
huge Thank You to everyone who stopped by.
The heavy schedule of Social Activities in the upcoming months has
spurned numerous planning meetings around the Club to work out the many
details necessary to successfully carry out these events. Major events
in December, after receipt of the Towline, are Special Peoples Cruise,
the BYC Christmas Dinner on December 9th (prepared and served by your
Bridge Officers, Flag Officers, and Executive Committee members), the
Lighted Boat Parade on December 14th and 15th, and the New Years Eve
Dinner Party on the 31st. I look forward to seeing many of you support
this Fantastic Club by attending the events, joining the Committees, and
taking advantage of the opportunity to socialize with many of our
Fantastic Members.
One of the Pre-Planning meetings, on November 7th, resulted in a major
change to the Heavy Weather program in February. Heavy Weather is a
BIGGIE FOR US. It is a major BYC event that requires a great deal of
advance planning and lots of Member participation. Therefore, it is
important that everyone become aware of the change to the schedule. The
February 2008 Heavy Weather Event will follow the "traditional" three day
schedule, not the "four day schedule" published in the BYC Calendar.
Racers are expected to arrive on Friday the 15th, with Friday evening
Social events to follow. The IPBA Heavy Weather Race will now be held on
Saturday, February 16th, with the Results of the Race to be posted in the
afternoon. Breakfast will be served on Sunday, with Race Award
presentations to follow.
Some details of the Social Events during the Heavy Weather weekend are
still in the planning stage, and a detailed Planning Meeting will be held
on January 8th at 7 PM. We need lots of help and IDEAS for this event,
so PLEASE JOIN US. There are LOTS of opportunities for your ideas, as
well as Points, Points, and more Points. The Theme for the 2008 skits
will be Country Jamboree, which is a pretty wide open field, ranging from
Grand Ole Opry to the Son's of the Pioneers, and everything in between.
BYC will be providing a casual Saturday dinner prior to watching the
skits (hopefully more than one skit). Following the Skits, Buddy Lilly
and three others in the Haywires Country Music Band will provide live
music for dancing until midnight. Staying further with BYC traditions,
we will again have "Mid-Rats" served at Midnight. This will be Clam
Chowder and Garlic Bread, especially prepared by Chefs Al and David
Gonzalez. Dust off your cowboy hats and boots, grab a table and chair
for the food, be there early for the skits, and have yourselves a
fabulous evening of food, fun, and dancing.
With so many social opportunities coming in December, I hope to be seeing
crowds of Happy Members throughout the month.
As always, I remain Your Humble Servant,
Mike Dunn, Vice Commodore
