Our own Fleet Captain Bev Bruins had Thursday evenings in Oct and Nov
set aside for Dance lessons; on November 19th was the end to the lessons
at BYC for now. The 8 couples who came out for 1 hour on Thursdays had
an opportunity to learn the East Coast Swing with "Smooth soles Steve
Brett", "Twinkle Toes R/C Leo Longenecker", "Light on his Feet Ray
Norton" and "Two Feet Tangle Danna Cutting". You may never know, these
stars may show a few new moves on the floor during New Year's Eve party
or Heavy Weather. There was interest in having another session slated
for early next year with either a new dance step or just to advance on
what was learned.

We on the Bridge and Flag Officers have events or are continuing to
add events that you as a member can participate in or get involved with as a
committee member.. Please keep checking your BYC website for all up-to-date
activities.

Chairperson P/C Gary Carr along with P/C Don Floyd and the committee
had a great turnout for this year's Special Peoples Cruise, a tradition
carried on even without support from Kitsap Transit. This year, the
responses we had from caregivers and parents bringing in guests to ride
boats and talk to Santa was overwhelming. The VFW came to the club and
made 125 sack lunches for the passengers only to find out 60 more were
needed. I would personally like to thank all the Captains who gave their
time to take the special people for a wonderful day on the water giving
time for the riders to talk with and see Santa. As the cold but smiling
riders came up the gangway they were greeted by Santa for pictures and
given a bag full of gifts put together by Arlene (later, Arlene
was presented the Jack DeWitt award for her dedication).
Thanks also go out to the Captains of Admiral Pete and the
Carlisle II arriving with their ferries to support the Wheel
Chair riders and the ones who could not be with BYC Captains.
The generosity of VFW, Kitsap Federal Credit Union and
the Bremerton Boys Basket ball team was again pronounced, and a huge
thank you goes out. A great spaghetti dinner was put on by Al and Joanne
Gonzales and their crew with plenty of salads and desserts brought in
by members. We at the Yacht Club realize that for this event to happen
people from the community and the Yacht Club need to come together for a
great cause.

Christmas Dinner was held on Sunday, December 13th. The Officers of BYC
served 95 members a Turkey dinner with the trimmings, along with
Christmas songs from the Bremerton High School Choir; this was an
enjoyable and relaxing evening. A huge thank you to R/C Leo and Stacy
Longenecker for the decorations and place settings on the tables, V/C John
and Denise Rosendale for the flowers and wine setting and Jan Cordodor
for being galley boss. To all Flag Officers, E- Committee and their
mates, and the Bremerton Choir I say THANK YOU.

The "SOCK HOP" lives, yes, members of the Bremerton Yacht Club and those
from other Yacht Clubs reading this article. On February 12-14 Heavy
Weather race activities will be gearing up. I ask you to find that
Poodle skirt and those Bobby socks and saddle shoes. Captains, do not forget
the VO5 to keep the hair slicked back, straight legged jeans and penny
loafers. If you have a skit to perform please get this information to
Kevin McStay at mcskins01@aol.com or 253-265-1326. If you would like to
contribute your expertise, please see one of the Bridge Officers, and you
will be directed to a Chairperson who is in need of help. Watch the
Calendar on line for the next meeting.

POINTS TO PONDER:

SPLICE THE MAIN BRACE - "Splice the main brace, all hands forward to"
is a summons to an extra ration of grog for work well done.

DEVIL TO PAY - Originally this denoted a specific task aboard ship such
as caulking the ship's longest seam. The "Devil" was the longest seam on
the ship and caulking was donewith "pay" or pitch. This grueling task was
despised by every seaman and the expression came to denote any unpleasant
task.

Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and
medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door
neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard.
The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have
been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams, who had climbed
over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a
pellet gun.

19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses
when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman
apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when
he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.
