Congratulations and a big "Thank you" are in order for Capt. Don Sherwood, our Work Party Chair, and his crew of hard working "Captains" for the outstanding job completed at the Work Party over the weekend of 7 & 8 February. The list of projects completed is extensive, and the club looks spectacular for the Heavy Weather weekend. There were 47 members on Saturday and 39 on Sunday for a total of 653 man hours of work. That may or may not sound lot a lot of man hours to some of you, but when you consider that the club charges $40 per hour for Work Party time not completed, it works out to $26,120 the club saved by the members' "doing it themselves". Remember, the next "scheduled" work party (also the last one of the year) is the weekend of 15 & 16 May. Plan ahead, your check book will thank you.
Another big "Thank you" is in order for the Skipperette galley crew who provided the sustenance for the workers on Saturday and Sunday. The lunches were delicious and we all thank you for your continued support. Speaking for myself, and I'm sure all of the members, we couldn't get along without you.
One of our visitors, upon observing the set-up of the ball room
for the skits, jumped right in to help put away tables and bring out
chairs. When told, "You don't have to do this, you're a guest",
replied; "This is what life is all about, helping each other, sharing the
load". What a great attitude. What a good example to all.
Our skit was fantastic, but the judges' minds were obviously
elsewhere when they made their decisions, or we would have won, hands
down. Don't be dismayed all you thespians, keep a positive attitude,
maybe next year.
Another comment I heard over and over was how "great" the
DOCKETTES
performance was….and the "Andrews Sisters were fabulous". One
elderly gentleman, who shall remain anonymous, said the performance got
him "all choked up", and "brought tears to his eyes". WELL DONE,
Ladies! I can't wait to see and hear how you will beat this year's
performance next year.

Heavy Weather
By the time you read this in the Towline, another "Heavy
Weather" weekend will have come to an end. From all appearances and
comments from those who attended, everyone had a GREAT time. Everyone
involved can be proud of a "job, well done". As in all such large events
as this, we had our glitches, and our faux pas, but everything worked out
in the end. I heard many comments about how events at BYC are "so much
fun", "not so formal, as in other clubs in the Grand Fourteen", "you all
have such a GREAT facility", "I sure wish I lived in Kitsap County so I
could join BYC", and on and on. These sorts of comments just reinforce
my opinion that we are fortunate to be members of such a wonderful
club. But the club is not the building, nor the marina; not the railway,
nor the land on which the club house sits; but the members
themselves. The volunteer spirit of our members is our greatest asset,
and one of the big reasons we enjoy such a good reputation.
