First BYC Land Cruise to Olympic Peninsula Wineries

1 November 2003 (900 to 1800 Hours)

On 1 November was the 1st Annual BYC Wine Tour.  A group of 24 of our members departed the club on board a comfortable Motor Coach with its own “Dedicated Driver”.  This allowed everyone to sit back and thoroughly enjoy guided tours of three Olympic Peninsula Wineries, Lost Mountain Winery in Sequim and Sorrenson Cellars and Fair Winds Wineries both in Port Townsend.  The day came to a pleasant finish with a great meal at the Belmont Hotel in  Port Townsend.  Though the weather was not the best it turned out to be a perfect day to sample some of the great wines our region has to offer right in our own back yard. It was all such a terrific success that this was only the first of many other Wine Tours to come.

Nov 1: V/C Rod & Angela organized a memorable wine tasting tour to Sequim and Port Townsend.
Did you miss it?

Fair Winds in Port Townsend was one of the wineries visited on this superbly organized tour. We actually were able to see the "backroom" of this small winery (producing about 1500 cases of red and white wines per year and depending almost entirely on volunteer workers for the peak bottling days). These antique corking & labeling devices (above, presented by the enthusiastic vintner) are still used for this last step of the long process from the grape to the bottle.

Reservations had been made for lunch at the historic Belmont Hotel Restaurant on the Port Townsend waterfront.
