BYC enters Anderson Island Jubilee Parade

Back at the Outstation, we had 37 boats, plus a few car loads of folks, make the Annual Trek to Oro Bay to help celebrate the Labor Day Weekend. This year everyone, except those who lingered into Tuesday, witnessed the “Gods of Weather” bestow some really wonderful weather upon the Holiday. The BYC entry to the “Anderson Island Diamond Jubilee” (75 years) Parade was a roaring success thanks to the many willing hands, such as Mike and Cora, Roger, Gunter, Dave and Debbie, Paul and Betty, Harry and Paula, Cliff and Sharon, and Steve. Many not only helped with the final assembly of the 1932 Diamond Reo Yellow Bus, but also helped carry the entry the throughout the Parade. “Yours truly” forgot to bring the BYC Banner, but the enterprising trio of Sharon, Paula, and Abbie bravely carried a great substitute sign through the long Parade route. Manufacture and final assembly of BYC's Jubilee School Bus are almost accomplished. Cardboard, paint and PVC pipes (salvaged from Opening Day Elvis structure) together with the VC's and others' imagination were all that was needed for yet another 1st prize.
The traditional (but nowhere to be found) Bremerton Yacht Club banner had to be replaced by an ad-hoc BYC sign. Some onlookers wondered whether they watched the Beijing, Bellevue or Bellingham Yacht Club.
Driver (VC Mike) and passengers (Harry, Debbie & Dave, Don & Donna, Betty & Paul) had a great time in spite of the long "walk" along the tree- and people- lined parade route (This reporter had to re-attach one of the tires on the way).
The great finale: The bus ends in the ditch and has to be evacuated and transported back to Oro Bay.

Vice Commodore: "... join me in giving a big WELL DONE to all who helped in our prize winning entry."
It's hard to believe that summer officially concludes in a few short days. Some of the warmest days were during the Labor Day weekend at Oro Bay and we sure enjoyed a fabulous weekend thanks to the extraordinary job done by Mr. and Mrs. Fleet Captains Mike and Mona-Lisa Ryan. Saturday night at Oro Bay was definitely a blowout - literally - we blew all of the power out with the help of our counterparts from Tacoma Yacht Club (TYC). Now we know that with over a hundred boats powered up with lights on, refrigerators humming and heaters and stoves running, equipment from our respective Karaoke DJ's strobing and amplifying along with Tacoma's jumbo Bounce House going - we overdid things, just enough to shut down the power. Thanks to the crew from Anderson Island, 50% of power was restored and we were able to seamlessly enjoy the rest of the weekend. The camaraderie and hospitality extended to BYC by TYC was most appreciated. We were invited over for an afternoon reception complete with tropical coolers and entertainment for the kids, who enjoyed hours of fun, bouncing in the big bounce house. Thanks again to Tacoma for welcoming us and sharing a fun weekend. Also a gigantic thank you goes out to all who assisted our fleet captains, Bryan Golden and his first mate and Captain and Mrs. Cliff Lillybridge for providing the extremely useful Oro Bay car. The meals provided by our fleet captains were outstanding, as were the raffle prizes! Some members that attended their first cruise, exclaimed how much fun it was and they will be cruising again with BYC, so if you haven't joined a club cruise, they are well worth it. There is plenty to do, with games and activities, or just come along to relax and enjoy the view. [Source]

An unplanned Saturday night requirement to enjoy a star filled evening with no lights was suddenly thrust upon both BYC and TYC as both clubs began enjoying Karoke and live music at the same time. Mrs. Fleet Captain and daughter had just completed the first rendition of the evening, and the DJ was announcing that Abbie and Debbie (our Daughter) would be next. Suddenly, a big “POW” was heard, followed by total darkness over both the Tacoma and Bremerton Outstations. Visitation via campfire and starlight was followed by lots of early retirements, and by morning the power company had installed a substitute transformer to replace the one that had fully melted down.
