I've become convinced that many of you may perceive our sport of Log Racing to be a highly technical, "black magic" kind of exercise. In reality, a navigational contest (log race) is merely a boating event that encourages boaters to learn a little more about their boats than they would probably need to know for common cruising. In fact, these contests are quite similar to the sport of auto rallying (not speed contests). If you can plot a course on a chart, read a compass and tachometer and have a vessel (power or sail) that can stay underway for about three hours, then you have all the basics needed to successfully compete in a navigation contest. And all the free instruction you could ever want is readily available within BYC. Just call. And now for the latest news:

We'll be having two warm-up contests before our Heavy Weather Contest in February. The first is history which was the Past Commodore's Cup on Nov 19 [won by Captain Robin Bruins]. The second will be the Thompson Trophy Contest on Sunday, Jan 21. In addition, the International Power Boat Association starts its season on Jan 13 at Queen City YC with their race on Lake Washington, which is a terrific social event. BYC is a member of IPBA and our Heavy Weather Contest is the second contest on the IPBA 2007 calendar and, hopefully, will remain the largest contest as in the past. To do so, we need you to come out as a racer representing BYC to maintain our reputation.

BYC needs YOU to be a part of the BYC Race Team to fly the BYC burgee at the other IPBA contests. Call or email me at mahenry@tscnet.com. Above all, please remember - Log Racing is a SOCIAL AND CRUISING EVENT. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
