REGATTA CHAIR/POWER REPORT ON BYC HEAVY WEATHER RACE 2007

THANK YOU!!!!!! Special thanks to each of you BYC skippers and crews who turned out as contestants for our Heavy Weather Contest. Of the 38 boats entered, 18 were BYC boats of which 4 skippers were entering a Heavy Weather Race for the first time. It's very heartening to know that you recognized the importance of showing that BYC is a major player in Pacific Northwest boating and your willingness to bring your boat out as a race contestant for our biggest event is truly indicative of your support for our club.

Also, my special thanks go out to Capt Owen and Linda Ritter and Capt Mike Knight for their efforts as the Observer Committee who gathered enough observers together to cover all the contestants. And thanks to you club members who did serve as an observer or agreed to observe if the need arose. The log check-in proceeded very well with our experienced "Log Babes" Maralee Ormiston, Denise Rosendale and Cathy Thomas returning again this year to make this all work so well. Thank you, ladies. Also, thanks are in order for our scoring team of Capt Jerry and Heidi Althauser who really turned to again this year to ensure that the contestant data and scoring results were accurate and problem-free. Our Honorary Member Sylvia Wilson deserves special thanks for her creative efforts in enhancing the race packets and the awards.

Now, on to the contest results: This year's Overall Winner is Dick Spence on KICHIGAI from QCYC with an error of 0.8446% As for the race results for BYC contestants, 9 BYC racers were award recipients:

NOVICE AWARD - COM Ron Morse

The P/C Grady Barrentine Team Trophy was won by BYC with a combined score of 4.045% narrowly beating out QCYC with a combined score of 4.075%. The top four scoring BYC members were P/C Mike Henry, P/C Leo Longenecker, COM Ron Morse and CAPT Rob Bruins. The other BYC contestants were CAPT Mike Leedy, CAPT Jack Hensley, CAPT John Adair, CAPT Jim Chiles, CAPT Dan Robinson, P/C Charlie Billings, CAPT Tex Dominy, CAPT Steve Brett and CAPT J.R. Collier. Thanks to each on of you. And while you're still fired up, the upcoming IPBA races will be the Meydenbauer Bay YC race on March 3, the Gig Harbor race on March 24 and the Eagle Harbor race on April 14.
