requirement!"

ARTICLE VIII -- DUTIES OF MEMBERS: SECTION 5 "Assessed work
party
days must be worked to the satisfaction of the Work
Party Chairman prior to 1 June of the current year or the member
will be billed for uncompleted work at the assessed hourly
rate. Exceptions to the work party requirements are, (a) those with over
ten (10) years membership in good standing and do not own or have personal
use of another's boat, (b) Honorary Members, and (c) those handicapped
members excused by Executive Committee action. (See ARTICLE X - SECTION 14
relative to Work Part requirements.)
All Work Party credits/commitments must go through the Work Party
Chairman. [See:
Secretary, Sept. 2003]
Scheduled Work Parties:
- 14 & 15 May 2005 (Last of the Year!)
- 9 & 10 April 2005 (NEXT!)
The April, Work Party was a huge success with much accomplished
including reproofing the shed at the head of the brow, painting the
facia on the clubhouse, and partial repair of the deck railings. But
remember, the last Work Party of the year is May 14th and 15th. If you
have not completed your required 16 hours for the year, the fee is $40
per hour. I know we all have many projects to complete at this time of
year but so does the Club. CAPT Al Fox still needs help to complete the
planned maintenance and repairs. Please signup early in the Club lounge
so he can schedule the remaining work tasks and allow the Skipperettes
to facilitate meal preparation for those days.

- 12 & 13 February 2005 (These dates represent changes from the original
5 & 6 February)
"As we approach February and Heavy Weather Weekend, I realize that
there are many events and much to be
done. First and most important is the Work Party scheduled for 12 and 13 February. Please be aware of
the date change from the 5th and 6th. CAPT Fox, our Work Party Chairman, has a signup sheet posted on
the bulletin board in the lounge so get involved for one or both days. As I write this, I was not
overwhelmed by the response so far! Remember that the obligation is 16 hours but any extra time would be
most helpful. If you have a pressure washer and are willing to let it be used and/or are willing to
operate it yourself, please let CAPT Fox know. Again, there is much to be accomplished so our club will
present in the best possible manner to our visitors and guests."

- 16 & 17 October 2004
The weekend of 16 - 17 October will be the first opportunity to accumulate
work party hours for the coming year. As you remember, at the May General
Meeting we voted 16 hours per member to accomplish the necessary
maintenance and scheduled projects for the Club. CAPT Fox, our Work Party
Chairman, has posted a sign-up sheet on the lounge bulletin board so
please remember to sign up. Although there are other work parties
scheduled in the next seven months, get your time in early so there will
not be a need for excuses or requests for makeup toward the end of
May. Remember, the fine is $40.00 per hour for unfulfilled time! The
clubhouse, grounds and floats do not need the "fine income," they need
your time and efforts to keep them looking well and in good condition!

Work Party at Oro Bay
Our May 15 work party activity was a huge success-new low voltage dock lights were installed, life rings installed on the floats, the
cyclone fence between TYC and BYC repaired and most importantly two dead fir trees of considerable size were felled and cut up. There
are more dead and dying trees as a result of root rot that will have to come down. We must replace these trees with a variety more
resistant to this disease. We are studying an approach and will develop a plan. More work.
A concrete pad has been poured for a small storage shed opposite the gazebo pad that will accommodate the barbeque, utensil and yes, a
hot water heater! (Brian Golden, 11 June 2004)
From the Tacoma YC's Webpage describing the same event:
A joint work crew with the Bremerton Yacht Club and a gracious hospitable
offer to use their covered, heated, and lit gazebo, Head Chef Bernie
Little’s food crew provided a wonderful lunch and dinner, while BYC
accompanied dinner with homemade, island grown rhubarb crisp and chocolate
cake.
You may recall that once again the member work party hours for 2003-2004
are sixteen (16) hours. Your first opportunity to start getting your hours
logged in (unless you’ve been working on the apartment renovation
project) is the weekend of October 18 & 19. Our Work Party Chairman,
Capt. Don Sherwood, has a sign-up sheet posted on the lounge bulletin
board, so don’t forget to sign up. We’ll have several more work parties
throughout the next seven months, but it’s always nice to get our time in
early to avoid trying to come up with excuses at the end of the year, when
one hasn’t logged in the required number of hours. The weather in the Fall
is usually fairly nice; and, at Forty Bucks an hour, "doing the
time" makes your wallet much happier…..as well as keeping the clubhouse,
grounds and floats in better condition.

Selected Towline Excerpts:
- Congratulations and a big "Thank you" are in order for Capt. Don
Sherwood, our Work Party Chair, and his crew of hard working
"Captains" for the outstanding job completed at the Work Party over the
weekend of 7 & 8 February. The list of projects completed is extensive,
and the club looks spectacular for the Heavy Weather weekend. There were
47 members on Saturday and 39 on Sunday for a total of 653 man hours of
work. That may or may not sound lot a lot of man hours to some of you, but
when you consider that the club charges $40 per hour for Work Party time
not completed, it works out to $26,120 the club saved by the members'
"doing it themselves". Remember, the next "scheduled" work party (also the
last one of the year) is the weekend of 15 & 16 May. Plan ahead, your
check book will thank you. (R/C, Towline March 2004)
- Caretaker Quarters, continued....
- The rip out and reconstruction of the caretakers quarters has
begun. Volunteer help during the summer is imperative if we want this
operation up and running soon. See Work Party Chair Capt. Don Sherwood.

- Speaking of painting and varnishing. Your club could use some. A
golden opportunity would be May 17 & 18, the " LAST WORK PARTY OF THE
YEAR". For those of you not having completed your work party hours this
is the last opportunity to do so. Sign up as soon as you see the sign up
list appear in the club lounge. It helps the Work party Chairman,
Capt. Don Sherwood get things organized .
As a reminder, you are obligated to 16 hours of work party this year. BYC
Regulation, section F, Paragraph 6.e, requires payment for unperformed
work party time at the rate of $40./hour. Hope to see you there. As
usual, there will be a nice lunch provided by the Skipperettes. I can't
think of a better way to spend the weekend than helping to beautify our
club.[Towline May 2003]
- Capt. Dale Armstrong has started the galley upgrades and has now turned the project over to
Capt. Morris for completion. As you know, the work is to be done by work party time to save money. Now
its time to call Capt. Morris and put in some work time. We must quickly complete this project. Without
adequate help and soon, we may have to pay a contractor to complete the project. Thanks Capt. Armstrong
for the great kickoff on the project. [Towline, October 2001]
- As we get set for the fall what better way to start it off than by signing up for the upcoming WORK
PARTY on October 6 and 7. Required time this year is 8 hours so sign up now. Get your time in, get a
hearty hot lunch and it's all free. What a deal! Work Party Co-chairs, Capt. Terry Stevens and
Capt. Steve Stearns will be glad to have you. They've been working on their project lists in
anticipation. [Towline October 2001]
- Summer is finally here and with it the promise of warmer and drier
days. As you make your plans for
the summer give some thought to getting your work party time out of the way early. We have several
major projects that we are trying to accomplish before fall. Captain Ray Gorski will be needing help
with the plumbing and such on the Pump Out On the Pier (POOP) installation. What a perfect time to help
on this job- at this point its all clean work guys, no rubber gloves or respirators needed. Also, for
the insatiably curious, now is the time to find out how one of those things really work. [Towline, July
2001]
