Social Events

BYC members have many opportunities throughout the year to enjoy each other's company and share our common interests in boating.  In addition to the major events described below, we also have informal events, such as our Friday Night Socials where members gather in the cafe area to enjoy beverages and light snacks.

Commodore's Ball
A dinner dance honoring the recent outgoing commodore. First Saturday in June.  Hosted by previous year’s commodore.  The commodores of the Grand 14 are also invited.  Dress is formal, tuxedos, suits and gowns.

Junior Officers Ball
A themed dinner dance held every even year to honor our Vice- and Rear Commodores.  The junior officers of the Grand 14 are also invited. Costumes are encouraged to match the theme.

Installation of Officers
Installation of Officers
Also known as the “Change of Watch”.  Outgoing Bridge Officers and members of the Executive Committee are thanked for their service, and the incoming officers and committee chairs are charged with their new responsibilities.  Appetizers served prior to event, with cake and champagne after.  New Bridge Officers host guests on their boats moored at the reciprocal slips.

Christmas Dinner
Christmas Dinner
A sit-down dinner with the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, and pie.  The Bridge and Executive Committee cook and serve the meal.  Santa arrives after the meal, and gag gifts are given to various members.

First Saturday morning in December.  Games and snacks for children and grandchildren of members.  Presents that are brought by family/guardians and labeled with the child’s name are distributed by a Santa Claus.

Held the Saturday before Easter.  Typically 1-3pm.  The Rear Commodore dons the Easter Bunny suit and greets the children.  Easter egg hunt around the picnic shelter.  Snacks and drinks for the children.

Pot luck, band or DJ.  Dancing 'till the wee hours.

Usually held last weekend in September or first weekend in October.  Bavarian theme with traditional German fare and music.

Salmon Bake
Salmon Bake
Fresh-caught salmon cooked outdoors on Alder planks.  Typically served with garlic bread, corn on the cob, cole slaw, beans and dessert.   Held at the picnic shelter, weather permitting

Summer Carnival fun with Games for Adults and Kids, a Cake Walk, Prizes and Raffles.  Featuring some fair favorites such as Hamburgers & Hot Dogs, Cotton Candy, Popcorn and of course adult beverages.

Heavy Weather
BYC hosts one of the largest Cruiser Navigation Contests on the West Coast. Usually the second weekend in February.  Friday night dinner welcomes visiting yachtsmen and is hosted by the Rear Commodore.  Saturday navigation contest, followed by dinner hosted by the Vice Commodore.  Skits by participating clubs precede the contest awards.  Sunday morning breakfast hosted by Commodore, after which guests depart.

Lighted Boat Parade
Decorated boats head to Ostrich Bay in Dyes Inlet and back on Friday night. Saturday night the route is around to Illahee and back.  The parade is led by a lead vessel followed by the Santa boat, with Santa waving to people onshore.  The Santa boat broadcasts personalized greetings to specific houses along the routes.  Houses wishing to be greeted contact BYC ahead of time with the greeting they want Santa to make when abeam their house.  In the two nights, Santa has addressed up to 3,000 people.  After the Friday night parade hot drinks are provided to the boat participants in the clubhouse.

Friday night socials are informal events providing club members the opportunity to gather and visit.  The store serving hours are extended to 7:00 pm and it is customary for those gathering to bring an appetizer dish to share.  Occasionally, themed activities or entertainment may be added for special occasions.

Santa Cruise

special peepsA signature event of BYC and its largest outreach program to those members of our community with disabilities.  Held each year since 1982, guests start arriving about 3pm and are escorted to member’s boats for a short trip on the water.  Every year upwards of 125 of these special guests enjoy a ride around the Santa boat.  They can wave to Santa and even talk with Santa on the radio.  As our guests depart they are treated to gifts provided be event sponsors.  All volunteers then have a simple dinner in the BYC banquet hall.
